Zambia's business rating rises through the ranks

According to the Zambia Development Agency’s newsletter, ‘ZDA Spotlight June 2009’, Zambia has been ranked 3rd in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) out of 18 countries surveyed, 5th in the SADC region and 7th out of 46 Sub-Saharan countries, showing that the country’s ‘Doing Business Ranking’ has improved markedly.

The territory of Northern Rhodesia was administered by the British South Africa Company from 1891 until it was subsequently taken over by the UK in 1923. During the 1920s and 1930s, advances in mining spurred development and immigration. The country’s name was changed to Zambia upon independence in 1964.
