Renewable energy solutions provider, Suzlon Group, has won the prestigious Golden Peacock Eco Innovation Award 2016 for its S97 120m hybrid tower wind turbine, the world’s tallest all-steel hybrid tower wind turbine with a hub-height of 120 metres above ground level.
Designed indigenously to harness the enhanced availability of wind resources at higher altitudes, thus maximising energy yields in low wind regimes, it makes sub-optimal wind sites viable with an industry-leading energy yield. The prototype turbine located in Kutch, Gujarat, achieved a 35% plant load factor (PLF) for the 12-month period since its launch in November 2014.
The S97 120m design combines lattice and tubular structures, which offers enhanced structural stability at lower costs. Thanks to the broad base of the lattice component of the tower, it can support a higher load and also reduces the steel requirement apart from being logistic-friendly.
