Zimbabwe seeks energy framework with SA

An agreement in principle for the structuring of energy deals was reached between the Zimbabwean minister of energy and power development, Samuel Undenge, and his South Africa counterpart, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, last month, although no timelines have been indicated yet on when the pact would be in place.

According to the Zimbabwean secretary for energy and power development, Partson Mbiriri, the two ministers will sign a memorandum of understanding, informed by the fact that South Africa and Zimbabwe share a lot in the energy sector, which includes electricity, fuel and infrastructure, most of which has been happening outside an official framework.

While South Africa is way ahead in terms of solar geysers, Zimbabwe offers a lot from a technical point of view. The country was able to keep its grid alive despite chronic economic problems and all of its power stations are functioning.
