Invitation: Interwaste set to unveil South Africa’s first Refuse Derived Fuel Plant – an industry milestone!

South Africa generates 108-million tonnes of domestic waste per year, with R17 billion worth of waste products being buried at landfills. This poses a serious concern to the environment, in the long term, where there is an immediate need for government and the private sector to work together in finding alternative waste management and recycling solutions. Similarly, this type of waste presents massive opportunities for commercial use and therefore, solutions aimed at this need to be considered.

In fact, Mark Gordon, Deputy Director for Chemicals and Waste management at the Department of Environmental Affairs has been quoted as saying: “Waste management is a big area of opportunity for SA and could generate as much as R50bn per year”.

So in the interest of protecting the environment and the community, as well as creating commercial opportunities accordingly, what can and should be done?

Over the years Interwaste has been committed to responsible and innovative waste management, in line with government’s 2022 zero waste to landfill declaration. Interwaste’s imminent launch of a market first in waste to energy solutions is testament to this and the company invites you to join them to witness and celebrate this milestone – one that is set to change the industry at large.
